Why GlobalSim? Create your own exercises!

One key advantage of GlobalSim simulators is the ability to create custom exercises. GlobalSim provides a set of standard exercises to use with the crane simulator but what if you want more than that? What if you want to focus on a specific need for one person or site specific training for all of your crane operators? For this reason GlobalSim offers the ability to create custom exercises and the options and combinations are endless and can be made to your specific needs.

The Instructor Station software includes the ability to start with an empty arena or to start with a standard scenario with the ability to modify it. For port crane simulators, the instructor can customize an exercise by adding ships, containers or other loads, and traffic in the yard. For the construction crane simulator, the instructor can start with the empty arena and place buildings, various loads and traffic. The exercise can take place in a gravel pit, on the road or at the building sites. As you can see your customizable options are endless.

The scenario editor allows the instructor to customize the key objectives for the various exercises. Instructors can choose to modify the standard curriculum or purchase a set of advanced exercises. Adding loads, vehicles, etc., is as easy as using a drag and drop menu. The instructor can also modify weather and change the time of day. An important benefit of using a simulator is to have the student experience dangerous faults or malfunctions such as having a cable break or a container getting stuck. Learning to deal with these problems is much safer and cost effective on a simulator than experiencing it for the first time on the real equipment.

A full set of instructor tools are a great benefit for those with a sophisticated knowledge of simulators. However, not everyone has the time or desire to customize their training exercises. Therefore, GlobalSim provides a set of exercises that allow users to be productive immediately. Whether custom or standard, the advantage of having a set of exercises is that each student can be judged objectively based on their performance. In either case, the instructor will want a record of the student’s ability. But that is a topic for the next newsletter – the Student Database.
