Last Month at the TOC Asia conference in Singapore, Bart Williams spoke during a TECH TOC session about three factors that contribute to successful training. The content of his speech highlighted contributing factors to successful crane simulator training beyond the actual simulator. Here are excerpts from Williams speech:
“While good graphics are important, better raindrops in the simulator do not make a better crane operator. The combination of a good simulator, a good curriculum, and a good instructor make a better crane operator.”
“It’s critical to have a scenario generator tool built into the simulator system that allows an instructor to add, edit, and modify scenarios according to their needs”
“For many institutions, a custom curriculum is vitally important. Having a set of exercises that can be modified to meet their unique needs, can be a great benefit to many training courses.”
“An example of an important tool is the ability to have a student database record the performance as the student progresses. The computer can record moves per hour and number of collisions. This allows the instructor to have objective measurements to compare different students.”
